When a freak accident forces Josephine, a 25-year old actress, to impersonate her very rich aunt – a woman well into her 50s who was addicted to plastic surgery and was about to marry a much younger man to boot – she sees it as yet another role to play, albeit not the one she could add to her acting resume.
Still, she does her best, assuming the pampered life of her socialite aunt, a woman obsessed with her looks and preserving her fleeting youth. After all, it was only for a day or two until her fiancé could arrange matters and divert suspicion. However, it soon becomes obvious that Josephine’s impersonation will have to be a lot deeper – and much longer – than she thought possible.

DeleteHaving had the privilege of proof/editing this story for Camille I suppose I'm biassed but it's a great addition to the genre. It also has the advantage of being able to read it in its entirety without being forced to wait on tenterhooks for the next episode to be posted. Plus it provides Camille with a little cash (hopefully) to invest in this website - so it's one of those clichéd win-win situations.

Its so wonderful reading about a superior elegant mistress who keeps her lady's maid(s) busy all the time. Talking all Services for granted without any words of thank to her perfect uniformed maids.
Instead of saying please or thank you she is always impatiently and never satisfied. Even the buttoning of her ladyships precious high collared blouses is a challenge for the well trained maids.
but to have new or continuous stories of interrupted stories do we have to get old?

DeleteThere are elements of social downgrading in Angela's Path without the usual malicious intent of someone from a different social station manipulating the situation.
DeleteThe story follows Angela, a successful business woman who is not just dissatisfied with her life but finds it is making her physically and psychologically ill. Cleaning appears to be therapeutic which gradually increases to cleaning outside her apartment and becomes more immersed in the housekeeping environment. Without adding any spoilers for potential readers the storyline is well written and and takes us on Angela's Path of self discovery and for readers of this genre an interesting change from the predictable path.
I have always considered Emma Finn to be the bench mark for this genre but Neil Albert gives a different perspective and, in my opinion one that ranks alongside the best.

DeleteYes, it's interesting that the author, in his afterwards mentions cultural appropriation and whether the reader might disagree but quickly "blames" Angela which I liked. It's certainly worth reading and if he wrote another similar I wouldn't hesitate to read it.
