Story: Victoria And Rosie's Transition.

by Peter242

Victoria was thirty-eight, now an extremely wealthy lady having inherited from her parents who recently had both passed away. However, she wasn't enjoying her life at the moment, not just because her parents were no longer with her, but because she now had to practically work for a living.

Of course, by, 'work for a living,' she was not working for the money, but was managing several trusts that had been set up by her parents. The problem, was that Victoria had never had to work at all and had spent most of her life on her tablet, playing games, and corresponding with so-called friends from around the world.

Victoria got more and more depressed thinking how the rest of her life was now carved out with what she saw as very boring things to do. Because she found having to deal with the trusts so time-consuming she had already lost most of her online friends as well.

Her family had always had a full-time live-in maid. The current one was Mary, who was actually the same age as Victoria at thirty-eight, and who had been the family's maid for over twenty years. She did all of the household chores, cleaning the house as well as washing the clothes and everything involved with that, and all of the cooking.

What Victoria saw, was how Mary enjoyed her job. Victoria could tell it was very hard work, but one time when she had asked Mary about it, Mary had told her that whilst it was hard work, she didn't have to think about her work, but just do it. Mary had also explained that she was the third generation of women in the family who had taken a career as a full-time live-in maid, so, it was therefore inbuilt into her brain.

All of that had set Victoria thinking, particularly how, it seemed, that even though she was the one with all the money, it was Mary who was enjoying her life much more out of the two of them.

That was until an unexpected turn of events when Mary told Victoria that she would need to take a three-month sabbatical. A family matter had arisen, and she asked Victoria if that would be okay. She also said that her niece, Rosie, who was twenty-four and fully trained as a maid, could fill in for her.

Victoria saw no reason to object, and so, two weeks later, Mary went away for her three-month sabbatical, having shown Rosie everything that had to be done during the week prior. Rosie had moved into Mary's rather small bedroom, which was on the ground floor and attached to the kitchen. There was a bathroom next door to the bedroom, and a second equally small bedroom in case a second maid stayed over.

Victoria had a far more spacious ensuite bedroom, as the lady of the house should.

What surprised Victoria was that Rosie explained to her that she was actually a fully qualified accountant, but, because of her family heritage, she had spent a lot of time during her time at university in a house as a part-time maid. It was clear to Victoria very quickly that Rosie certainly did know everything that needed to be done as a maid, as the house remained spotless.

So, things continued pretty much as normal, including the fact that Victoria was still bored with her existence, knowing that even lots and lots of money was not a pathway necessarily to a happy life.

It was after a week or so, when Rosie brought in a cup of coffee for Victoria, in Victoria's office, just as she entered Victoria had let out a huge sigh.

Rosie had asked, "Is everything okay, ma'am?"

Victoria gave a really weary-sounding reply by saying, "It's just this accountancy work, Rosie. It really does drive me round the bend."

Rosie asked, "What accounting system do you use, ma'am? Some aren't as good as others, ma'am."

Victoria remembered that Rosie was also an accountant and asked, "Did you work as an accountant as well as a maid?"

Rosie blushed as she knew that she shouldn't have been so bold, but replied, "Yes, ma'am, I am a fully qualified accountant. I am also fully trained as a maid but handed in my notice when I was told I would be coming here to work."

Victoria was surprised at that, and asked, "You were told to come?"

Rosie replied, "Oh, that isn't a problem at all, ma'am. I fully honour the family heritage and always thought I would be just a full-time maid. I got into accountancy purely by chance, did the degree, then a couple of years working in an accountancy firm to get qualified, and then this happened."

That set Victoria thinking, and she asked, "So, is it fair to say that you would be able to sort out all the problems I'm having with the accounts?"

Rosie replied, "I'm sure I could, ma'am, but I would still have to do all of the household chores which do take up a huge proportion of the day." Rosie didn't want it to seem that she was refusing, so she quickly added, "I'm sure that I could help you, though, ma'am."

Victoria immediately took that offer up and said, "Great, then please sit here and I will run you through them."

Victoria then spent the next hour running through the various problems she was having with the accounts. She could tell from the questions that Rosie was asking that she really did understand accounts.

At the end of the time, Rosie explained, "I can see what the problems are, and could sort them out, but it would probably take two to three weeks full-time work. If I were to do that, mistress, you would need to employ a second maid."

Victoria didn't want to face that hassle, and so suggested, "What we could do, Rosie, is you could spend the next two to three weeks sorting out these accounts, and I could do all of the household chores. How does that sound?"

Rosie definitely looked surprised at that, and asked, "Really, ma'am? Cleaning is such hard work, and if you're not used to it, then that could be quite a problem. More so, by doing all the household chores that includes dealing with all the dirty washing, so mine as well."

Victoria understood where Rosie was coming from and so thought she should explain. "Actually, Rosie, it won't be such a problem for me. Quite a while ago I did a search on the Internet, asking the question, 'What do wealthy ladies of the house do when they are bored, hate their lives, and want to do something more meaningful?' The answer I got back didn't really surprise me. The main one was explaining that, whilst not particularly common, it wasn't so uncommon either, for ladies of the house who were used to having full-time live-in maids, to swap roles with the maid. That was because the lady of the house got stressed by having to deal with their wealth and could see how following a schedule of household chores was pretty much stress-free."

Rosie found that explanation interesting, and said, "That was pretty much the opposite of what I had done when becoming an accountant, so I can see the logic, ma'am.".

Victoria also saw that, and continued explaining, "I researched further, and there was a residential course for ladies of the house to be trained to become full-time maids. I told Mary that I was going to be away for a month, but instead of going on holiday, I went on that live-in training course. I learned everything about household chores, and, whilst I certainly agree it is hard work, I actually found I enjoyed it far more than living here as the lady of the house."

Rosie was certainly taken aback by all of that, but could see how both she and her mistress could have two to three weeks exchanging roles, and both enjoying themselves much more. So, Rosie replied, "If you are sure about that, ma'am, then I would love to sort your accounts out for you."

Victoria replied, eagerly, "I am really up for it, Rosie, and I want to be a very hard-working maid."

So, Rosie printed out the full schedule of household chores which listed what had to be done each day. Lots of things were clearly repetitive and done every day, and others took place two or three times a week. Victoria read the list eagerly and realised that so much duplicated what she had learned on that one-month residential training course.

Over the next several days, Victoria worked really hard carrying out the household chores. She knew that, as the lady of the house, she could have done all of the work badly and nothing would have been said. However, she actually wanted to do the chores well, and found it so refreshing. In fact, she asked Rosie to check on her work, and point out her shortcomings. Rosie did that, and as the days went by, she even told Victoria the truth which was that her work had improved.

At the same time, Rosie happily worked away at the accounts and was getting them in good shape.

Rosie found it so easy to be the lady of the house, getting her maid to do anything at all that she needed to, like fetching anything for her, having her clothes laid out for her, her meals cooked, a cup of coffee made for her whenever she wanted. In fact, she loved that her maid did whatever she was told, immediately. She very quickly felt as though she was born to be the lady of the house.

Mabel fell into the role of the low-status maid very quickly and saw so many benefits for herself. Her focus was on her household duties, and whilst scrubbing the kitchen floor or the bathrooms was hard work, she loved doing it. More particularly, she loved serving her new mistress and doing immediately whatever her new mistress wanted. She was happy to do whatever she was told to do without question. She was so happy not having to think, but just doing.

Mabel also loved wearing her maid's uniform so not have to think what to wear. Whenever she stopped and looked in a mirror at herself wearing the maid's uniform, she told herself that it was the best dress she could ever wear.

Mabel also found not having to make a conversation with anyone a real plus for her.  She only ever spoke when spoken to, so no need to think there either.

All in all, Mabel certainly found serving her mistress as her maid as the most important thing in her life, and quickly felt she was born to do it. Of course, she knew that Rosie wasn't her forever mistress, but enjoyed thinking that way as she carried out Rosie's duties.

After about ten days, Rosie interrupted Victoria carrying out her cleaning work, which at the time had her scrubbing away on the kitchen floor.

When Rosie said that she had something to discuss, Victoria took it more as an instruction than a maid requesting to speak. She even made Rosie a cup of coffee, and it was only when she brought just the one cup over to the table that Rosie smiled and said, "Make yourself a cup of coffee as well, ma'am."

Victoria happily made herself a cup of coffee and, again, enjoyed the fact she was doing what she was told again.

When they were both seated and sipping their cups of coffee, Victoria looked at Rosie and wondered what she wanted to discuss.

Rosie saw the questioning look on her mistress's face, and realised that, whilst up until then she actually only spoke when told to speak by her mistress, she took the questioning look as permission to speak.

Rosie explained, "I've taken everything as far as I can, ma'am. However, I have asked some of the trustees to come to the house so I can run through things with them as well. A couple of them are coming from quite a distance, and so they will be staying overnight, actually in total for about four days or so. I hope that is okay, ma'am."

Victoria wasn't sure about that at all, because, although they were trustees, they had never actually met. The trustees had no idea what she looked like, and everything was done by email. Victoria could see that could be a problem, though, because, when the trustees were in the house, she would be the one doing the household chores and Rosie would be the one discussing the accounts.

Then an idea sparked in Victoria's mind, and she couldn't stop herself saying, "That's fine, Rosie. However, I'd rather they didn't see me as the lady of the house. In fact, I would actually like to portray myself as the live-in maid. It would be a great experience for me. What do you think?"

Rosie liked the idea of being portrayed herself as the lady of the house, and so replied, "I can go with that, ma'am."

Victoria had actually played with this idea as she was doing her household chores. She had considered saying to Rosie that she shouldn't address her as, 'ma'am,' but use her first name. Equally, she shouldn't address Rosie by her first name while she was the lady of the house, and she should address Rosie as, ma'am.

That thought set Victoria off at another angle. She suggested, "What I would think would really work, is that we swapped bedrooms whilst the trustees were in the house. What do you think of that?"

Rosie was really up for that. She rather liked the idea of living the life of the lady of the house, even if it was just for a few days. So, she replied, "If you are happy with that, ma'am, then I am as well"

Victoria decided to go further and said, "I think we should make this the full role swap as I learned on the residential course. So, as well as swapping bedrooms, we will swap clothes. That means that we don't have to move anything between the bedrooms when we swap roles. You will have full use of all of my clothes, as well as my jewelry and make-up. We are about the same size, after all, so that will work. Equally, I will only wear your clothes, especially your maid's uniform, and no make-up and no jewelry."

Victoria looked at Rosie and saw that she seemed really up for that.

Victoria continued, "I will do everything in accordance with the rules for a maid. That means I will not speak first but only when spoken to, and I will only address you as, ma'am."

It was then that Victoria realised that left one particular issue. So, she said, "Obviously, it's no good if you call me Victoria. After all, I think they should call you Victoria. On the other hand, I don't want to use your name because that is unfair to you. I suggest that I am called, Mabel. What do you think of all of that, ma'am?"

Rosie was still up for everything that was being offered, and even replied, "That works for me, Mabel."

Victoria, now Mabel, immediately went to her previous bedroom, changed the sheets and the towels and the like, and, as she walked out of the bedroom, she actually waved at the room and said goodbye. She then went downstairs to her new bedroom, saw how it was so much smaller than her previous one, but actually felt right at home.

The next day, when the first two trustees arrived, it was Mabel who took their bags to the bedrooms that they were allocated. Mabel knew not to speak first, but, as she came back downstairs, she heard the new Victoria say to the trustees, "Just let Mabel know if there's anything at all that you want. There's a bell in your bedrooms that sounds in the kitchen and Mabel's bedroom which you can use at any time you want, and she will come to your bedrooms straight away."

Mabel loved how that made her feel so low status, just as she was told she should feel on the training course.

It was when Mabel served morning coffee and biscuits in the office that she heard both guests address Rosie, as Victoria. Mabel was very pleased at that and knew that she would only see her being Victoria in future, but fully intended to continue to address her as, ma'am, to show the others the respect she had for her mistress.

That was how the next four days went. Partway through, the first two trustees left, and two other trustees arrived. Mabel was the one who did all of the sorting out, and even loved it when the bell would ring, and she would have to go immediately to deal with the guest's request.

Once those four days were done, the house was empty again, except for the lady of the house and the maid. In the real Victoria's mind, however, she still saw herself as Mabel, and really did want to think of Rosie as the real Victoria, and most certainly as her mistress.

It was Rosie who said, "That helped me a lot, Mabel. However, there is still more work than I had expected to get these completed, so it will be another week or so of me sorting out the accounts. Do you want to change back bedrooms?"

Mabel immediately replied, "I don't think we should do that, ma'am, particularly if it might be necessary for others to come and visit the house whilst you are finishing off sorting out the accounts."

The new Victoria could actually see how that made sense, and replied, "Okay, Mabel, then we will continue as we are."

Mabel thought that was a win for her, and replied, "Yes, ma'am."

Mabel could see that the new Victoria was giving her a questioning look, and so said, "Really, ma'am, that is fine. I prefer it that way as well. I would really prefer to keep thinking of you as the lady of the house, if that is also okay, ma'am."

Rosie, who quickly reverted to the new Victoria persona, replied, "That's fine with me, Mabel."

So that change of roles continued, with the new Victoria working away at the accounts, and the real Victoria, now only known as Mabel, continued to deal with all of the household chores. In fact, they both liked their new positions.

After another week, Victoria said to Mabel, "Everything is done now, so we can revert to our real roles." The new Victoria deliberately did not add the respectful word, ma'am, as she still felt that she was the lady of the house.

Mabel replied, "Actually, ma'am, I really am loving being the full-time live-in maid. Please, can we continue doing it this way? There will be bound to be more work to do for the accounts, and you do it so much better than me."

Rosie could see how that would be good for her, not just because she wouldn't have to do the household chores, but because she had been in contact with her old firm, who liked her so much that they said that they would be quite happy if she worked from home. If that was the case, then she could do that here, and have a job ready for her when she finished and her aunt came back.

Rosie therefore replied, "That's fine for me, Mabel. Do you want to swap back bedrooms?"

Mabel was very clear with her reply when she said, "I would prefer that we both stayed where we were, ma'am. Just as I want to continue as the full-time live-in maid, I so want you to continue as the full-time lady of the house."

Rosie was happy with that, and replied, "That's fine, Mabel. In that case, I will continue to be Victoria."

Mabel continued to relish being the full-time live-in maid, working hard, but having no stress. She had actually never been happier.

In fact, Mabel was so happy with the way things had turned out, that she told herself that she wanted it to be permanent, with her as the maid and the new Victoria as the lady of the house. She was pretty sure that Mary wouldn't want her or her niece to do the transition, and so wanted to get things sorted out before Mary's return.

One evening, as Mabel served her mistress her dinner, she asked, respectfully, "May I speak please, mistress?"

The new Victoria knew that that wasn't usual, and so replied, "Yes, Mabel, you may speak."

Mabel explained, "You will recall I told you about the residential course I attended to learn how to be a maid, ma'am. Actually, I went on a few of them. What they explained, was how several ladies of the house fully transitioned into being full-time live-in maids. They had to do it in such a way that they were tied in for life and couldn't just change their minds again on a whim. So, a contract for life was developed, which the lady of the house, who was now the maid, would sign, as well as her new mistress. Everything was covered about how the roles would change, and the lady who was now the maid couldn't break the contract, but only the new mistress could. In addition, her entire wealth was handed over to her new mistress, and if the new maid broke the contract, then she could not have her wealth back. It was only if the new lady of the house cancelled the contract, that the wealth would be handed back. I would love to do that with you now, mistress."

That got Rosie, the new Victoria, really excited. That would mean that she would be the lady of the house, here, forever. That lifestyle would continue even when her aunt returned. It would be a shock for her aunt, and it would be interesting to see how that turned out.

Within minutes, the agreement was reached, the contract signed, and, from that moment on, Rosie would only ever be known as Victoria, and the maid would only ever be known as Mabel.

The two of them continued that way until Mary returned. She had sent a message to say that she was returning, but that was received by the new Victoria, and not seen by Mabel.

When Mary did arrive, she was clearly confused by the fact that her niece was wearing really expensive clothes as well as expensive jewelry, and she was wearing a lot of makeup. On the other hand, she saw that her mistress was wearing the maid's uniform.

When Mary asked the question, directed at her mistress, it was the new Victoria who replied, "You need to know, Mary, that I am now the permanent lady of the house. You are now also looking at Mabel, who is the full-time live-in maid. I am now in the ensuite bedroom, and Mabel is in the maid's annex. Our respective positions are contractual and so binding on everyone. Therefore, from now on, I am Victoria and the lady of the house. When you address me, you will only address me as, ma'am, as your show of respect and subservience to me, your new mistress."

Both Victoria and Mabel could see that Mary was struggling to come to terms with what she was being told.

In fact, Mary had been aware that transitions like this had taken place, with the roles of the lady of the house and the maid reversed. She just hadn't expected it to happen to her niece and her now previous mistress.

However, Mary also knew that she needed a job. She was very sure that she could get a job elsewhere for a new mistress, but she liked this house and wanted to stay.

Therefore, Mary asked, this time directing her question to the new Victoria who was now the lady of the house, "Do I still have a job here, ma'am?"

The new Victoria managed to keep a straight face, but was delighted with that question, and replied, "Yes, Mary, you do. We will arrange for your chores to be split, but I'm sure that you will both have full-time roles here."

Mary was relieved at that, and replied, "Thank you, ma'am."

The new Victoria was very confident that she would be able to split the chores between what were now her two full-time live-in maids. As there were two bedrooms in the annex, it was straightforward where Mary would live, sharing a bathroom with Mabel. Extra clothes would have to be purchased so there were enough maid's uniforms for the two maids, but that would be easy enough.

The new Victoria also spoke to her accountancy firm employer, and it was agreed that she could continue to work from home, attending the office only one maybe two days a week. That would work, the new Victoria told herself.

The new Victoria was very happy with her new life, because she was now the accountant that she wanted to be and no longer had to do the menial low-status work of a maid.

In fact, it was better for her because she was now the one who had two full-time live-in maids.

Mary just saw her life continuing as it did before. She still had one mistress and managed to push out of her mind that her new mistress was actually her niece. As such, Mary was used to being the low-status full-time live-in maid. Well, that's all she was really doing now, and that was built into her mentality given she was the third generation of full-time live-in maids.

Without question, the happiest person in the house was Mabel. She could tell there was some stress between her mistress and Mary, but that wasn't going to be her problem. She just got on with her work and knew that, as she was still living in the same house, albeit in a very different bedroom, her life wasn't really so different. It was even better because, instead of struggling to do the accountancy work and the like, she threw herself into the really hard work of being a maid. Scrubbing the kitchen floor was so much more fulfilling  than doing the accounts. That was a win-win for her.

Two out of the three had transitioned, and that was how life continued for the three of them, and none of them wanted it to change.
